What is scuba diving?
Scuba diving is an underwater diving activity that gives you the opportunity to explore the ocean on a deeper level by using underwater breathing equipment.
Do I need to know how to swim to scuba dive? Is scuba diving a lot of physical activity?
Yes, basic swimming skills are required for scuba diving. It is not required to be an amazing swimmer, but you should be comfortable swimming up to 200 meters or more. Scuba diving requires physical activity, and depending on the location it will be higher depths or longer swims.
Is scuba diving safe?
Scuba diving is generally safe when required guidelines are followed and you should never dive alone. A certified trainer will make sure you know where you’re going, your equipment is safe, and that you see all the sights!
What kind of certification is required to scuba dive?
Many different certification levels are offered, with resorts and excursions offering them through PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) or SSI (Scuba Schools International). Don’t be worried if you’re a beginner, as many certifications can be completed on your vacation!
What equipment do I need for scuba diving?
Equipment will be provided by most resorts and excursions that offer scuba diving. Basic equipment can include a mask, snorkel, fins, a regulator and tank, and a wet/dry suit depending on the temperature of the water.
How deep can I typically dive?
There are a huge range of depths for scuba diving for every comfort level! Typically, with a standard certification, you can dive up to 60 feet.
Can I scuba dive if I wear glasses?
Yes! Wearing soft and disposable contact lenses is an option for those whose vision is impaired. If you get more serious about diving, you can always get a prescription mask.
What marine life will I see while scuba diving?
