Your 2022 Guide to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

It’s finally spooky season, so it is time for my favorite Disney event, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a separate ticketed event that occurs from 7 PM to 12 AM on select nights in August, September, and October. It has ride overlays, character meet and greets, special treats, and more!

This blog will walk you through the event and provide a few tips to ensure you make the most of your evening!

Ride Overlays

Three rides get overlays during Mickey’s Not So Scary: Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Space Mountain becomes pitch black during the event, and they pipe spooky music into the attraction. Tea Cups also gets spooky music and strobe lights. Pirates of the Caribbean brings live pirate actors throughout the queue and the attraction. If you are a fan of the original of any of these attractions, I recommend trying the overlay during the party. I always prioritize Space Mountain during these events because I love it!

There is also a special version of Monsters Inc Laugh Floor during the party. The Laugh Floor is a treat stop but you can come in and out and watch your favorite monsters try to make you laugh.

Characters

The party is also home to exclusive character meet and greets like Jack and Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas and characters in their Halloween costumes like Elvis Stitch or Winne the Pooh and friends in their Halloween gear. If your favorite character is out during the party, make sure to say hi!

Food

Disney is known for their snacks, and the Halloween snacks are great. The party does get some exclusive snacks that can only be purchased during the event. This year there was a Grave Digger Milkshake, Worms & Dirt Funnel Cake, and more.

We tried the Spellbinding Fried Pie (Buffalo Chicken, Mozzarella, Blue Cheese wrapped in flaky dough, topped. With a candy eye and Jalapeno Ranch Aioli), which we loved, but fair warning, it does have a kick to it. If you can, I recommend grabbing one of the exclusive snacks during the party because they rarely disappoint!

Spellbinding Fried Pie - highly recommend!

Trick or Treating

It is not Halloween if there is no trick or treating. There are plenty of candy stops throughout the park where you can trick or treat and grab candy. If you have any food allergies, you can also pick up tokens at trick-or-treat locations that you can redeem for allergy-friendly options at designated locations during the party.

Parade

Mickey’s Boo To You Parade is one of my favorite parades, from the Country Bears to Constance Hatchaway to the Grave Diggers; it encompasses some of my favorite elements from the Magic Kingdom in this parade. It is a fantastic parade, and the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the night! This is always my number one must-do, and I highly recommend watching this during your party.

Fireworks

Disney is known for their fireworks, and Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular is no exception. This 15-minute show features Jack Skellington as your guide as well as stunning Castle projections paired with fireworks. I recommend watching this from Main Street or in front of the Castle, so you do not miss the projections or the surprises on the Castle stage.

Stage Show

I am not sure when they added the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular to Mickey’s Not So Scary lineup, but it has become something I cannot miss. This 15-minute show is on the Castle stage and features the Sanderson sisters and other famous Disney Villains. I recommend checking it out!

Tips

Here are a few tips to ensure your Halloween party goes as smoothly as possible!

  • Get to the park at 4 PM

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party begins officially at 7:00 PM and that is when all of the party festivities above start, but with your ticket you can get in as early as 4:00 PM. I recommend getting there as close to 4:00 PM as possible and using that time to grab dinner and hit any attractions you want to at Magic Kingdom that may not be party-specific. Then around 6:45 / 6:50 PM, I recommend getting in line for a party-exclusive character or attraction, so when 7:00 PM rolls around, you are one of the first people to experience it and can easily cross it off your list!

  • Make a list of priorities before heading to the party

Five hours goes by quickly so I recommend making two lists. The first list is absolute must-dos during the party. Mine was the parade, fireworks, and stage show this time, as I had not seen them in three years. The second list is your would be nice to-do list. This list is things that you will do if you have time, but you will not be disappointed if you cannot do them. This time around, it was meeting Elvis Stitch, riding the Halloween overlay of Space Mountain, and hitting as many trick-or-treat stations as we could. Luckily, the crowds were manageable the night we went and I was able to cross off everything on both lists! I recommend these lists to know your priorities during the party and to ensure you make the most of your party.

  • Stay for the later parade and stage show as they are usually less crowded

My last tip is if you can make it to the later parades and stage shows, try to hit those. They are usually less crowded as those with younger ones with earlier bedtimes hit the earlier parade and stage show before heading out for the evening. Another suggestion is to watch the parade from Frontierland as the parade starts there. You do not have to wait for the parade to make its way through the park before heading down Main Street (if you want to see Powerline Max, unfortunately, you will need to be on Main Street to view him. I recommend watching by the train station to ensure you catch Max).

I hope this was helpful and that you can make the most of your Mickey’s Not So Scary! I am already excited to go back next year!
