Experience Disney’s Wild Africa Trek

I recently did the Wild Africa Trek Experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park with my fiancé, and I want to tell you all about it so you can experience it during your next Disney vacation!

What is Disney’s Wild Animal Trek?

According to Disney, “Be awestruck viewing wild animals in their natural habitat on the 3-hour Wild Africa Trek. On this privately guided tour, discover animals of nearly every variety living in the Safi River Valley—an untamed environment that resembles their home turf in Africa.”

Have you ever been on Kilimanjaro Safari and seen folks crossing the bridge above the crocodiles or looking over the hippos as they are fed? That is this experience! Have you ever wanted to go behind the scenes of Kilimanjaro Safaris? Then this is the tour for you!

What does Disney’s Wild Animal Trek include?

It is a 3-hour experience, including the following:

  • Close encounter with the Hippos

  • Crossing two rope bridges above Kilimanjaro Safaris and the crocodiles (I am terrified of heights and was able to do this. I made sure I was one of the last people to go so I could take my time across the bridge. You are harnessed in, and the tour guides triple-check your harness before stepping on the Trek. You may see the slight look of fear in my eyes in the photos, but it was totally worth it!)

  • Close encounter with the crocodiles

  • Private safari starting from the savanna portion of the attraction to the end of the attraction with two knowledgeable guides

  • Lunch (It was lunch for us since it was 2 pm by the time we ate, but the food may differ depending on the time. Also, they can cater to allergies/dietary preferences. They were able to cater to the fact that I do not eat pork).

  • PhotoPass (Yup! Any photos taken during the experience will be free to download on the My Disney Experience App within 48 hours of the tour.)

How much is Disney’s Wild Animal Trek?

It is $199 per person before taxes. Annual Pass and Vacation Club discounts can be utilized for this experience. You do need valid admission to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for this experience.

Is Disney’s Wild Animal Trek worth it?

This is pricey, especially when you factor in park admission, but my fiancé and I agree that this experience is 100% worth it. You get up close up with hippos as they are being fed, you have lunch on the savanna as the wildebeest and gazelle are grazing, and you essentially get a private safari with two guides who are super knowledgeable (I asked about the giraffe that was born in the middle of the day at Kilimanjaro Safari in front of guest views and they were able to tell me the whole story!).

Kilimanjaro Safari and Animal Kingdom hold a special place in my heart, but I also recommend Animal Trek if you are looking for something unique to do on your vacation!
